Who are you?
Who defines your identity?
Who are you when all the noise and influences of the world are quietened?
There’s a moment in the Gospels when Jesus heals a man who is deaf and can’t speak. And he says “Ephphatha”. The Gospel tells us this means “Be opened”. We can be open to all sorts of things in our life through what we hear. What kind of music we listen to, who we follow on social media, things people say to us… How often do you find yourself picking up the same phrases your friends use? Or adopting words from trends that go viral? It all gives us a sense of who we are. But… can you imagine a world where you never listen to music or youtube, never hear the news, never “hear” the many voices that try to tell us how to speak & how to act? I’m talking about more than just the sense of hearing - I mean, who would we be if we didn’t have so much noise and busyness around us? Who are you, when all the pressure is off and the noise is quietened?
